Subcision is
a procedure used to help soften the nasolabial fold (line from the
nose to
mouth or often called "laugh lines"). This can be done
alone or if needed in combination
with Collagen for maximum correction. Under local anesthesia, a
small incision is made
at the nasolabial fold near the corners of the mouth. Then a small
cannula (18 gauge) is
inserted to provide a fine "scraping" under the skin beneath
the "laugh line" to help release
the tension. This actually "lifts" the skin away from
the underlying tissue to help release
or raise the indentation of the nasolabial crease. Collagen used
with subcision can further
fill-in the indention of the nasolabial fold line, softening the
look of the area.
Below are some
pictures of a paitent before and after the subcision procedure.

Remember
to discontinue use of any Aspirin or Ibuprofen one week prior to
appointment.
There may be some mild bruising and swelling after the subcision,
but this should resolve
fairly quickly.
