A native of the Seattle area, Mr. Keene graduated with
a BS degree in chemistry from Pacific
Lutheran University where he earned the NAIA District One Scholar-Athlete Award
and was nominated for Academic All-America in soccer. He
completed a Master of Health Science at the Duke Physician
Assistant Program, graduating with honors and receiving several
academic scholarships.
Mr. Keene began practicing in family medicine where he
remained for seven years, concentrating in dermatology in
1998. This same year he completed a PA Teaching Fellowship
at Duke, serving on faculty within the Department of Community
and Family Medicine. He continues to enjoy academia, having
served as a clinical instructor to medical and PA students
from all four North Carolina schools of medicine, published
academic research and continued responsibilities lecturing
at Duke. Clinical interests include fungal disorders, viral
skin infections, dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatology
and medical education.
Mr. Keene maintains an adjunct faculty appointment at Duke
and is currently serving as Chairman of the Duke PA Program
Alumni Steering Committee. He is a member of the North Carolina
Dermatology Association, Society of Dermatology Physician
Assistants, North Carolina
Academy of Physician Assistants and the American
Academy of Physician Assistants.
His wife, Georgina F. Keene, PA-C, works in Obstetrics and
Gynecology in Durham. They have one daughter and enjoy traveling,
reading and time with friends.
